Jobbeschreibung

TUD Dresden University of Technology, as a University of Excellence, is one of the leading and most dynamic research institutions in the country. TUD has established the Research Training Group "AirMetro - Technological & Operational Integration of Highly Automated Air Transport in Urban Areas" (RTG).

The Research Training Group RTG "AirMetro", funded by the DFG, offers a position, subject to the availability of resources, as:

Research Associate / PhD Student (m/f/x) (employees are remunerated according to salary group E 13 TV-L, depending on personal qualifications)

starting as soon as possible. The position is limited until April 30, 202X. The employment is governed by the Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz - WissZeitVG). The goal of the position is to obtain further academic qualification, usually a PhD.

Job ID: RTG-T7

Investigators: Dr.-Ing. habil. Judith Rosenow, Chair of Air Transport Technology and Logistics

Requirements: very good or good university degree in physics, meteorology, fluid dynamics, or a comparable field.

Description of the PhD topic (subproject T7): In Urban Air Mobility, a high wind sensitivity of UAVs and the interaction of the natural frequency of UAVs with surrounding turbulence are critical. The PhD involves modeling natural frequencies of UAVs, mesoscale fluid dynamic simulations, microclimatic and turbulence modeling in urban environments, and formulating weather- and turbulence-related limit values for stable flight at wind speeds up to 14 m/s and high turbulence.

Tasks: Conduct independent and collaborative scientific research, study relevant literature, refine objectives, work on individual research projects with experimental, numerical, or empirical focus, implement research programs, evaluate and interpret results, contribute to internal platforms, participate in lectures and workshops, support scientific graduation work, report progress, publish results, maintain exchange platforms, and summarize findings in a dissertation.

Successful candidates will join approximately 18 PhD candidates at the Chair of Air Transport and Logistics and collaborate with other RTG members.

General Requirements: First-class graduates with expertise in the relevant fields, high interdisciplinary interest, teamwork willingness, and excellent English communication skills.

What we offer:

  • Pioneering research environment with access to state-of-the-art facilities, including a large hall and outdoor space for experiments.
  • Cross-disciplinary collaboration with experts from engineering, data science, urban studies, and aerospace.
  • Extensive training in drone technology, data analytics, regulation, project management, and leadership.
  • Global networking opportunities, including international research stays.
  • Career development support for fellowships and career guidance.
  • High quality of life in Dresden, known for its vibrant urban scene, cultural offerings, and affordability.

Further questions can be directed to Dr.-Ing. habil. Judith Rosenow.

TUD encourages women, candidates with disabilities, and those with equal status to apply. The university offers a family-friendly environment and a Dual Career Service.

Please submit your application, including a cover letter, CV, transcripts, recommendation letter, and publications if applicable, by July 2, 202X, via the TUD SecureMail Portal or by mail to TU Dresden, RTG, Herrn Prof. Dr. Hartmut Fricke, Helmholtzstr. 10, Dresden, Germany.
