Summary

The Director for the Comprehensive Genetics Service is responsible for providing administrative, programmatic, and clinical leadership for the service at National TeleOncology. The incumbent reports to the Executive Director of the National Oncology Program and has dotted line accountability to the Chief Medical Officer of National TeleOncology.

Qualifications

To qualify, applicants must meet the basic and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Pending completion of training or licenses, candidates may be tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are fulfilled. VA physicians who met the requirements at their initial appointment are deemed qualified.

Basic Requirements:
  • U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens only if qualified citizens are unavailable
  • Doctor of medicine or equivalent degree from an approved school
  • Current, full, and unrestricted medical license in the U.S.
  • Completed residency training approved by the VA or equivalent
  • Residents in approved programs may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers under supervision
  • Proficiency in English
  • Preferred experience includes broad cancer genetics, management of hereditary predispositions, leadership in virtual environments, and program management at regional or national levels
  • Physical and emotional fitness for VA appointment, with ability to interact professionally with patients and staff, and to handle stressful workloads
Duties

The Director will:

  • Develop and articulate a vision for program excellence in genetics services
  • Set and communicate goals aligned with VA and VHA priorities
  • Promote patient-centered care, quality improvement, and research initiatives
  • Manage finances, develop strategic and budget plans, and oversee staffing and professional development
  • Collaborate with educational and healthcare partners to enhance service delivery
