We are seeking a motivated PhD candidate to explore advanced solutions for future 5G-6G Telecom Satellites. Join Airbus Defence and Space in Ottobrunn/Munich as a PhD student (d/f/m) in the Telecom & Navigation Processing department, working 35 hours/week with flexible hours. The position is for a duration of 3 years, starting as soon as possible.
You will contribute to high-performance satellite processing solutions, focusing on on-board implementation of 5G/6G payloads and AI support. The research scope includes architectural trade-offs for CU/DU, implementation and benchmarking on on-board processors, scalability and performance analysis, optimization of digital beamformers, AI enhancements, and hardware architecture assessments (CPU, FPGA, ASIC).
Qualifications include a Master’s degree in Telecommunication or Electrical Engineering, knowledge of communication standards (3GPP, CCSDS, 5G), signal processing skills, embedded programming (C, C++, VHDL), scripting (Matlab, Python), and interest in space and telecom trends. Fluency in English is mandatory; French or German is a plus.
