The Leibniz Institute DSMZ-German Collection of Microorganisms and Cell Cultures GmbH, Braunschweig, in collaboration with the Leibniz Institute for Agricultural Engineering and Bioeconomy (ATB), offers a position for a Research Associate / PhD candidate (m/f/d).

Position Details

Focus: The role of livestock slurry as a source of antimicrobial resistance.

The position is part-time, initially limited to 3 years, with a salary level of TV-L 13 (65%). The work location is in the Microbial Genome Research group at DSMZ (Braunschweig). The start date is as soon as possible.

Research Context

This position is associated with Project 8 within the Leibniz Research Alliance „INFECTIONS“, which aims to develop new strategies for risk assessment, outbreak management, and control of antimicrobial-resistant pathogens, based on the One Health approach.

Responsibilities
  • bacteriological and molecular biological analyses of microbial communities in livestock slurry
  • supporting laboratory slurry tank experiments
  • bioinformatic analyses of large-scale genomic and metagenomic data
  • investigation of pathogen transmission and spread
  • collaborations with partner institutes and support of guest researchers
  • preparation of scientific publications and presentations
  • participation in the Leibniz Research Alliance network activities
Qualifications
  • Master's degree in the life sciences or related field
  • interest in population genetics and bioinformatics
  • experience with microbiological and molecular biological methods
  • basic programming skills (e.g., Python, R) are a plus
  • good command of English
  • Class B driving license is useful
