A leading research group in Germany is seeking a PhD Student to explore metabolic interactions in intrinsically disordered peptides. This position offers the chance to work with state-of-the-art tools and develop interdisciplinary skills in a collaborative environment while contributing to significant scientific research. The selected candidate will join a dynamic team with a focus on mutual inspiration and growth.
The Research Group for Sustainable Biocatalysis (Dr. Andreas M. Küffner) invites applications for a PhD Student (f/m/x) position for the project:
Uncovering the evolution of metabolic interactions in intrinsically disordered peptides
While enzymes have specific binding pockets with well-known interaction residues, interaction motifs are hardly known for intrinsically disordered proteins (IDPs). Using diverse tools and approaches, we aim to uncover the specific motifs necessary to drive reactions inside compartments and to tailor IDPs for enhanced biocatalysis.
Eligible candidates should have strong skills in molecular biology, (bio-)chemistry, and biophysics, with a keen interest in interdisciplinary research and a willingness to learn and develop new approaches. Candidates should hold a Master's or equivalent degree in (Bio-)Chemistry, Biology, or related fields.
We are a young, dynamic group emphasizing collaboration and mutual inspiration. Our lab is equipped with state-of-the-art biochemistry and molecular biology tools, and a wide range of analysis methods are available. The MPI offers programs supporting work-life balance, further training, and free language courses. Göttingen, located in Germany's heart, offers outdoor activities, cultural opportunities, a vibrant student scene, and a rich scientific heritage.
The position offers payment and benefits according to the TVöD Bund wage agreement. It is limited to three years with a possible extension.
The Max Planck Society encourages applications from individuals with disabilities and strives for gender and diversity equality. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds.
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled. Please submit your application, including a cover letter (detailing your background and motivation), CV, and transcripts (translated into English or German if applicable) as a single PDF via email.
