PhD Student (f/m/d) – Perovskite/CIGS Tandem Thin-Film Solar Cells

CIGS-based thin film solar cell technologies have been a core topic at the Competence Centre Photovoltaics (PVcomB) since its foundation in 2010. In combination with Perovskite solar cells, the resulting all-thin-film tandem devices can be fabricated on flexible and lightweight substrates and are capable of surpassing the efficiency values of established thin film solar cell technologies. However, challenges remain regarding upscaling and longevity of this complex device architecture. To address these aspects experimentally and through numerical device simulation, we are seeking inquisitive, motivated, and enthusiastic candidates for a PhD project. Your Tasks
  1. Work with a team of scientists to fabricate and characterize complete Perovskite/CIGS tandem thin-film solar cells.
  2. Investigate causes and effects of defects in the tandem solar cell’s layered architecture and evaluate their impact on quality and longevity.
  3. Design and execute experiments under supervision, analyze data, and interpret results.
  4. Present findings at meetings, workshops, and international conferences; publish in scientific journals.
  5. Supervise bachelor thesis projects once sufficient experience is gained.
Your Profile
  • Master's degree in physical sciences or electrical engineering.
  • Fulfillment of formal requirements for PhD application at TU Berlin.
  • Fluent in English (reading, writing, listening).
  • High intercultural competence and teamwork skills.
  • Experience in thin film PV is advantageous.
