In the Optimization-based Control Group, Institute of Mathematics, at the Technische Universität Ilmenau (Germany) is a vacancy for a
if necessary selection of academic qualification WissZeitVG as soon as possible.
This PhD position is of the research unit "ALeSCo - Active Learning for Systems and Control" funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and its main responsibility is to carry out the research in the Ilmenau-based ALeSCo Project P3 entitled "Active learning in the Koopman framework" and to represent Ilmenau at the joint ALeSCo activities. Participation at international conferences and research visits at other top research centers are supported and highly welcome.
The position includes the following responsibilities:
Aim of the PhD project is to develop novel active-learning model predictive control schemes within the Koopman framework with rigorously derived guarantees, e.g., w.r.t. the approximation error. To this end, the assessment of retrieved data is conditioned on the control objective to properly balance exploration and exploitation. To this end, novel notions of data informativity have to be developed. The research will be at the interface of mathematics, control theory, and machine learning.
