Your future with usWe are one of the leading university hospitals in Germany and network research, teaching and health care at the highest level. That's why many things are a lot bigger for us: the spectrum of exciting development opportunities. The limitless openness with which specialists from all over the world work together here. Or our commitment as an employer to support all employees as best we can in reconciling their job with their goals and life situations.
This is the University Hospital of Cologne: Everything but ordinary.
Your future in detailWe are one of the largest and oldest universities in Europe and one of the most important employers in our region. Our broad range of subjects, the dynamic development of our main research areas, and our central location in Cologne make us attractive to students and researchers from around the world. We offer a wide range of career opportunities in science, technology, and administration.
As part of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery at the University Hospital of Cologne a PhD position in the area of cancer cell biology is immediately available.
The research fellow will be supervised by Dr. Marcel Mayer and Prof. Dr. Jens Peter Klußmann, and will be embedded in the group for Molecular Head and Neck Oncology (Head: Prof. Dr. Julie George). The overall aim of our research is to study and elucidate the biological processes of cancer
and investigating the molecular adaptation of cancer to therapeutic responses in head and neck cancer. Among head and neck cancers, salivary gland carcinomas are a heterogenous group of malignant tumors of the major and minor salivary glands. The clinically and biologically most
aggressive entity is salivary duct carcinoma (SDC). Although targeted therapies for SDC are available, their efficacy is low as knowledge about the relevant signaling pathways in this tumor is extrapolated from more frequent tumors. Therefore, this project focuses on better understanding signaling of the already available pathways and finding new targetable alterations in SDC in order to ultimately translate these findings into clinics.
Applications from female candidates are expressly welcome and will be given priority in the event of equal suitability, competence and professional performance. People with disabilities are welcome to apply and will be treated preferentially in the event of equal suitability and qualification.
