Advanced Transmission Electron Microscopy
In order to fill afixed-term position in part-time (29.87 hours/week = 75%) At the earliest possible date, we are looking for 1
The chair of Advanced Transmission Electron Microscopy develops techniques in the electron microscope to study material phenomena down to the atomic level. The main working areas are atomic resolution microscopy, spectroscopy, 4D-STEM, in situ microscopy and data analysis. We use these methodologies to study interfaces in materials, novel catalysts, emerging magnetic materials and advanced energy materials.
We are seeking a doctoral researcher (f/m/x) with a strong background in in situ scanning transmission electron microscopy, four-dimensional scanning transmission electron microscopy and machine learning based data analysis of complex multidimensional datasets. The successful candidate (f/m/x) is expected to have demonstrated a high level of proficiency in developing and applying 4D-STEM methods using pixelated electron detectors in combination with in situ experimentation. The candidate is required to have experience in using open-source toolboxes (such as Hyperspy, Pyxem or Py4DSTEM) for data analysis and the development of novel data analysis workflows.

· Implementation of 4D-STEM experiments using fast pixelated electron detectors
· Establish the combination of dynamic in situ experiments with 4D-STEM
· Develop fast, automated phase and crystal orientation mapping
· Explore crystal and domain growth under in situ conditions using 4D-STEM
· Establish machine learning based data analysis workflows
· Master degree in materials science and engineering, physics or applied physics
· Strong experience in scanning transmission electron microscopy
· Solid-track record of 4D-STEM experimentation and/or data analysis
· Experience in pixelated electron detectors and/or corresponding datasets
· Solid knowledge in Python-based data analysis and simulation
· Fluent in English and German (at least level C1 required in oral and written form) (only for teaching duties)
The position is salaried and based on the collective agreement of the Länder (TV-L).If the personal and collective agreement requirements are met, the employee will receive pay grade E13 TV-L.

The Ruhr-Universität Bochum is one of Germany’s leading research universities, addressing the whole range of academic disciplines. A highly dynamic setting enables researchers and students to work across the traditional boundaries of academic subjects and faculties. To create knowledge networks within and beyond the university is Ruhr-Universität Bochum’s declared aim.
The Ruhr-Universität Bochum stands for diversity and equal opportunities. For this reason, we favour a working environment composed of heterogeneous teams, and seek to promote the careers of individuals who are underrepresented in our respective professional areas.
