Jobbeschreibung

This position is part of the EU-funded Marie Skłodowska-Curie Doctoral Network „Climate-Tectonics Interactions using Big Data informed Models“ (INITIATE). We are seeking a candidate to build a Digital Twin of the subsurface of North Central Europe as a basis for 3D simulations of coupled thermo-hydraulic-mechanical (THM) processes considering different climate scenarios. The objective is to assess the influence of present and past climate changes on the THM configuration, relevant for groundwater resources, heat and energy storage, geothermal energy production, and nuclear waste deposition.

Your responsibilities :
  1. Integration of geological and geophysical data into a 3D structural model resolving heterogeneities (sediments, crust, and lithosphere mantle).
  2. Identification, compilation, and analysis of data describing groundwater and climatic conditions.
  3. 3D forward simulations of coupled THM processes under various climate scenarios.
  4. Construction of surrogate models for ensemble simulations and uncertainty quantification.
  5. Quantification of future climate scenarios.
  6. Interpretation and publication of results in peer-reviewed journals.
  7. Qualifications: Master degree or diploma in Physics, Mathematics, or Geosciences.
  8. Knowledge of thermal-hydraulic-mechanical processes.
  9. Experience in 3D structural modeling and numerical methods.
  10. Programming skills are advantageous.
Eligibility :
  1. Researchers must be Early Stage Researchers and not hold a doctoral degree.
  2. At recruitment, researchers must not have resided or worked mainly in the host country for more than 12 months in the past 3 years.

Duration :

36 months, full-time (39 hours/week).

Salary :
  • €3342/month gross living allowance
  • €600/month gross mobility allowance
  • Potential family allowance: €660/month
  • Additional allowances may include long-term leave and special needs support.
