At the Institute of English and American Studies, Department of Modern Philologies, at Goethe University Frankfurt am Main, the position of a

Research Associate
(pay scale E 13 TV-G-U, 65% part-time)

The responsibilities of the position include collaboration and scientific services in research within the project B05. The project explores the occurrence of Negative Polarity Items in non-negative contexts in German, Romanian, and English. Specifically, the following tasks are expected of the position holder:

  1. Corpus linguistic analysis and processing of project data
  2. Design of a research database
  3. Collaboration in the development of new methods for data extraction from corpora
  4. Acquisition, annotation, and analysis of corpus data
  5. Formal semantic modelling within a constraint-based grammar framework
  6. Presentation and publication of project results

The opportunity for academic qualification (PhD) and independent research will be provided.

Requirements:

  • Completed academic university degree (Master) in linguistics or a relevant field with a (potentially computational) linguistic focus
  • Very good language skills in English (C1) and German
  • Proficiency in common software (including Python and LaTeX)
  • Ability to work independently, teamwork, and communication skills
  • Demonstrable interest in the following areas: formal semantics and pragmatics, formal grammar, corpus linguistics (including quantitative methods)
  • Interest in working with databases (MariaDB), Large Language Models, and XML
  • Knowledge of statistics and constraint-based grammar frameworks is advantageous
