Job Description:

As part of the SMS group, a leading supplier and builder for the metals industry with 15,000 employees worldwide, we serve clients in the steel sector and beyond.

We are actively working on CO2 reduction strategies for blast furnace-based iron production, including the development of the EASyMelt concept, which integrates plasma torch technology.

Position:

PhD – Plasma Torch Simulation Engineer (m/f/d)

Responsibilities:
  • Design and simulate plasma torches for industrial applications.
  • Operate and analyze results from OpenFOAM Solver across various scenarios.
  • Estimate thermodynamic and transport properties of plasma using statistical mechanics.
  • Develop numerical models for plasma torches using software such as OpenFOAM or Code_saturne.
  • Collaborate with experimental teams to validate and improve simulation models.
Qualifications:
  • PhD or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or related field.
  • Strong understanding of numerical methods and plasma physics.
  • Experience with numerical simulations in software like OpenFOAM.
  • Familiarity with programming languages such as C++ or Python.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in English; French or German skills are advantageous.
