Paul Wurth, as a global leader in ironmaking technology, is actively working on CO2 reduction approaches for blast furnace-based iron production. A dedicated R&D group focusing on CO2 reduction techniques, green energy, and hydrogen has been established. One promising research path is the EASyMelt concept, developed by Paul Wurth, which integrates plasma torches.

We are looking for a PhD – Plasma Torch Simulation Engineer (m/f/d).

Your primary responsibilities include:

  • Running the developed OpenFOAM Solver for various scenarios.
  • Estimating thermodynamic and transport properties of plasma using statistical mechanics.
  • Developing numerical models for plasma torches using simulation software such as OpenFOAM or Code_saturne.
  • Collaborating with experimental teams to validate and improve simulation models.

Qualifications include:

  • PhD or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of numerical methods and plasma physics.
  • Experience with numerical simulations using software like OpenFOAM.
  • Familiarity with programming languages such as C++ or Python.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in English; French or German skills are advantageous.
