Job Description

Paul Wurth S.A. is an international engineering company based in Luxembourg, with a team of 500 highly motivated employees. We are a global leader in ironmaking technologies, focusing on innovation and sustainability.

As part of the SMS group, a leading technology provider in the metals industry with 15,000 employees worldwide, we serve the steel industry and beyond.

We are actively working on CO2 reduction in ironmaking, including the development of the EASyMelt concept, which integrates plasma torch technology.

Position: PhD – Plasma Torch Simulation Engineer (m/f/d)

Your main responsibilities include designing and simulating plasma torches for industrial applications, working with engineers and researchers to develop innovative solutions.

  1. Running the OpenFOAM Solver for various scenarios
  2. Estimating thermodynamic and transport properties of plasma using statistical mechanics
  3. Developing numerical models for plasma torches using simulation software like OpenFOAM or Code_saturne
  4. Collaborating with experimental teams to validate and improve simulation models
Minimum Qualifications
  • PhD or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or related fields
  • Strong understanding of numerical methods and plasma physics
  • Experience with numerical simulations using OpenFOAM or similar software
  • Programming skills in C++ or Python
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team
  • Proficiency in English; knowledge of French or German is a plus
