Job Description:

As part of the SMS group, a leading supplier and builder of metal industry plants with 15,000 employees worldwide, we serve customers in the steel industry and beyond.

We are actively working on CO2 reduction in ironmaking, focusing on green energy and hydrogen. A key research project is the EASyMelt concept, developed with plasma torch technology.

Position:

PhD – Plasma Torch Simulation Engineer (m/f/d)

Responsibilities:
  • Design and simulate plasma torches for industrial applications using software like OpenFOAM or Code_saturne.
  • Run simulations for various scenarios with the OpenFOAM solver.
  • Estimate thermodynamic and transport properties of plasma using statistical mechanics.
  • Collaborate with experimental teams to validate and improve models.
Qualifications:
  • PhD or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or related fields.
  • Strong knowledge of numerical methods and plasma physics.
  • Experience with numerical simulations in OpenFOAM or similar software.
  • Proficiency in C++ or Python programming.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in English; French or German skills are advantageous.
