As part of the SMS group, a leading supplier and builder for the metals industry with 15,000 employees worldwide, we serve our customers in the steel industry and beyond.

We are actively working on CO2 reduction methods for blast furnace-based iron production, including the EASyMelt concept that integrates plasma torches.

We are seeking a PhD – Plasma Torch Simulation Engineer (m/f/d) to design and simulate plasma torches for industrial applications. You will collaborate with engineers and researchers to develop innovative plasma torch solutions.

  • Run simulations using the OpenFOAM Solver for various scenarios.
  • Estimate thermodynamic and transport properties of plasma using statistical mechanics.
  • Develop numerical models for plasma torches using software such as OpenFOAM or Code_saturne.
  • Collaborate with experimental teams to validate and improve models.
  • Hold a PhD or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or related fields.
  • Have a strong understanding of numerical methods and plasma physics.
  • Experience with numerical simulations in software like OpenFOAM.
  • Familiarity with programming languages such as C++ or Python.
  • Possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in English; knowledge of French or German is advantageous.
