Paul Wurth, as a global leader in ironmaking technology, is actively working on CO2 reduction approaches for blast furnace-based iron production. A dedicated R&D group focusing on CO2 reduction techniques, green energy, and hydrogen has been established. One promising research path is the EASyMelt concept, developed by Paul Wurth, which integrates plasma torches.

We are looking for a PhD – Plasma Torch Simulation Engineer (m/f/d)

As a Plasma Torch Simulation Engineer, your primary responsibilities include designing and simulating plasma torches for industrial applications. You will collaborate with engineers and researchers to develop innovative plasma torch solutions.

  • Run the developed OpenFOAM Solver for various scenarios.
  • Estimate thermodynamic and transport properties of plasma using statistical mechanics.
  • Develop numerical models for plasma torches using simulation software such as OpenFOAM or Code_saturne.
  • Collaborate with experimental teams to validate and improve simulation accuracy.
  • Hold a PhD or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or related fields.
  • Possess strong understanding of numerical methods and plasma physics.
  • Experience with numerical simulations using software like OpenFOAM.
  • Familiarity with programming languages such as C++ or Python.
  • Demonstrate analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in English; French or German language skills are advantageous.
