Paul Wurth actively works on CO2 reduction strategies for blast furnace-based iron production, focusing on innovative R&D, including the EASyMelt concept developed with plasma torches.

Position:

We are seeking a PhD – Plasma Torch Simulation Engineer (m/f/d).

Responsibilities:
  • Run the developed OpenFOAM solver for various scenarios.
  • Estimate thermodynamic and transport properties of plasma using statistical mechanics.
  • Develop numerical models for plasma torches using simulation software such as OpenFOAM or Code_saturne.
  • Collaborate with experimental teams to validate and refine simulation models.
Qualifications:
  • PhD or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or related fields.
  • Strong understanding of numerical methods and plasma physics.
  • Experience with numerical simulations using software like OpenFOAM.
  • Familiarity with programming languages such as C++ or Python.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in English; French or German skills are advantageous.
