Job Description:

As part of the SMS group, a leading supplier and plant builder for the metals industry with 15,000 employees worldwide, we support our customers in the steel industry and beyond.

We are actively working on CO2 reduction techniques for blast furnace-based iron production, focusing on the EASyMelt concept developed in collaboration with plasma torches.

Position:

PhD – Plasma Torch Simulation Engineer (m/f/d)

Responsibilities:
  • Design and simulate plasma torches for industrial applications using tools like OpenFOAM.
  • Estimate thermodynamic and transport properties of plasma via statistical mechanics.
  • Develop numerical models for plasma torches.
  • Collaborate with experimental teams to validate and improve models.
Qualifications:
  • PhD or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or related fields.
  • Strong understanding of numerical methods and plasma physics.
  • Experience with numerical simulation software such as OpenFOAM or Code_saturne.
  • Proficiency in programming languages like C++ or Python.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.
  • Proficiency in English; French or German skills are advantageous.
