As part of the SMS group, a leading technology supplier for the metals industry with 15,000 employees worldwide, we serve our customers in the steel industry and beyond.

We are actively working on CO2 reduction in ironmaking, including the EASyMelt concept that integrates plasma torches. We are seeking a PhD – Plasma Torch Simulation Engineer (m/f/d) to join our team.

Responsibilities:
  • Design and simulate plasma torches for industrial applications.
  • Run OpenFOAM Solver simulations for various scenarios.
  • Estimate thermodynamic and transport properties of plasma using statistical mechanics.
  • Develop numerical models for plasma torches using software such as OpenFOAM or Code_saturne.
  • Collaborate with experimental teams to validate and improve models.
Qualifications:
  • PhD or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or related fields.
  • Strong understanding of numerical methods and plasma physics.
  • Experience with numerical simulations using OpenFOAM or similar software.
  • Programming skills in C++ or Python.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team.
  • Proficiency in English; French or German is a plus.
