Job Description:

As part of the SMS group, a leading technology supplier and plant builder for the metals industry with 15,000 employees worldwide, we serve our customers in the steel industry and beyond.

We are actively working on CO2 reduction in ironmaking, particularly through the EASyMelt concept, which involves plasma torch technology developed by Paul Wurth.

Position:

PhD – Plasma Torch Simulation Engineer (m/f/d)

Responsibilities:
  • Design and simulate plasma torches for industrial applications using software such as OpenFOAM or Code_saturne.
  • Run simulations for various scenarios with the developed OpenFOAM Solver.
  • Estimate thermodynamic and transport properties of plasma using statistical mechanics.
  • Collaborate with experimental teams to validate and improve models.
Qualifications:
  • PhD or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or related fields.
  • Strong understanding of numerical methods and plasma physics.
  • Experience with numerical simulations, especially using OpenFOAM.
  • Programming skills in C++ or Python.
  • Analytical, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.
  • Proficiency in English; French or German is advantageous.
