The particle physics programme at DESY includes strong contributions to the LHC experiments at CERN and the preparation of future experiments. The experimental programme is complemented by collaboration with a strong theory group. The DESY ATLAS group is involved in data analyses focusing on W and Z production, Higgs, top quark, and Beyond Standard Model physics. Additionally, the group participates in the operation of the ATLAS Silicon Strip detector, the development of the ATLAS ITk Strips Detector for the High Luminosity LHC, and silicon tracking detectors for future particle physics experiments. We are seeking new PhD candidates to work on data analyses in the area of searches for new physics or studies on quantum effects, utilizing new techniques such as machine learning.

DESY in Hamburg does not award doctoral degrees directly but collaborates with the University of Hamburg. Candidates must meet the admission requirements for doctoral research at the University of Hamburg. PhD students will receive a monthly salary of 67% of the payment for remuneration group 13TVöD (Federal Government).
