Responsibilities
  • Identifying patenting opportunities in research and development projects according to Evonik's business needs.
  • Defining, obtaining, and enforcing legally valid industrial property rights (patents, trademarks, utility models, and designs) in Germany and abroad.
  • Representing Evonik and its partners before (inter)national authorities and courts.
  • Challenging third-party IP rights and defending Evonik’s IP against attacks.
  • Preparing expert opinions and evaluating IP positions for new products and research projects.
  • Participating in and initiating IP strategies in international teams and providing opinion work to safeguard Evonik’s know-how and freedom to operate.
  • Monitoring compliance with patent, utility model, trademark, and employee invention laws.
  • Advising on research, licensing, and non-disclosure agreements, and negotiating contracts focused on IP.
  • Reviewing and approving new products, brochures, packaging, and publications.
Requirements
  • Degree in chemistry or chemical process engineering, preferably in organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, polymer chemistry, or biochemistry.
  • Qualification as a professional representative before the European Patent Office or similar at a national patent office, with relevant experience and willingness to qualify as European Patent Attorney.
  • Several years of professional experience in an industrial company or law firm, preferably in the chemical sector.
  • Experience working with universities and research projects; IP contract drafting is desirable.
  • Experience managing complex interdisciplinary projects.
  • Proficiency in English; knowledge of French and/or German is a plus.
  • Strategic thinking, negotiation skills, customer orientation, and passion for research and innovation.
  • Strong communication skills and team spirit in an international environment.
