Job Overview

Healthcare Professionals are needed to provide medical services to support the Medical Treatment Facilities and Health Clinics within US Army Medical Command, Regional Health Command Europe, and other Department of Defense (DoD) agencies including US Navy and US Air Forces in Europe.

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Formal training or on-the-job training accepted
  • Certification as a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA), Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT), or Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (COMT) preferred
  • At least two years of experience as an Ophthalmic Technician/Technologist
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification required before service commencement
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English
  • U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain necessary security clearances
Responsibilities
  • Assist the optometrist/ophthalmologist according to certification level
  • Knowledge of medical terminology related to Optometry and Ophthalmology
  • Effective communication with patients and staff, ocular triage
  • Perform vision screenings, patient history collection, prescription verification, troubleshooting, and record maintenance
  • Test visual acuity, peripheral vision, depth perception, pupils, color perception, and conduct external eye exams
  • Operate ophthalmic equipment such as autorefractors, tonometers, and lensometers
  • Perform visual field tests and chart results
  • Administer eye drops for anesthesia, dilation, or medication
  • Operate specialized ophthalmic equipment like Pentacam, OCT, and cameras
  • Maintain office equipment
  • Provide contact lens insertion/removal training and educate on lens care
  • Vision therapy experience is a plus but not required

This position is eligible for support under NATO Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) articles 72 or 73.
