Jobbeschreibung

Founded by an experienced founding team and solidly financed, SWARM Biotactics is developing biorobots – initially based on insects – for a wide range of real-world applications. We are now recruiting an Optogeneticist to join our biology team as soon as mutually convenient.

We are currently accepting applications for on-site positions in Kassel, Germany and we offer a relocation package to successful applicants.

Your role:

You will leverage your expertise in optogenetics to develop light-activated neural circuits enabling reliable behavioural control of our insect-based biorobots.

Essential qualifications:

  • PhD (or near completion) in Biology, Neuroscience, Bioengineering, or related field
  • Deep hands-on expertise in optogenetic tool design and viral vector delivery, ideally in insect models such as Drosophila melanogaster
  • Strong background in neuroanatomy

Desirable extras:

  • Experience with light sources such as miniature implantable LEDs
  • Microsurgery skills for probe / fibre insertion
  • Familiarity with electrophysiology to validate opsin expression and circuit function

What you will do:

  • Engineer and validate opsin expression patterns that drive specific locomotor behaviours
  • Develop real-time light-stimulation protocols for robust remote control
  • Work closely with electrophysiologists, roboticists and data scientists to iteratively improve biorobot performance

We offer

  • Competitive salary plus virtual equity
  • Relocation support
  • Fast-growth environment where your work translate to real-world products
