Qualifikationen

Minimum Qualifications

  • Degree: Must have a High School Diploma or GED.
  • Education: Complete an ophthalmology technician or an optometric technician course.
  • Certification: Certification as a certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT)or Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (COMT) by the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology or a completed a formal ophthalmic training program of the United Stated Armed Forces preferred.
  • Experience: Two years of experience as an Ophthalmic Technician/Technologist after graduation. Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certified before commencing services under this contract. U.S. Citizen must be able to obtain a proper background and child background investigation in a favorable status to meet security requirements. Possess knowledge of specialized medical terminology associated with Optometry and Ophthalmology.

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Provide a wide variety of duties to assist the optometrist/ophthalmologist as appropriate to the level of certification (i.e., COA, COT, or COMT).
  • Perform vision screenings, obtain patient histories, prescription verification of eyeglasses and contact lenses, troubleshooting optical problems, and maintain patient records.
  • Test far and near visual acuity, perform gross peripheral vision testing, evaluate depth perception, check pupils, perform color perception tests and a gross external eye examination.
  • Examine the eye, using slit lamp, for abnormalities of cornea, and anterior and posterior chambers.
  • Utilize autorefractor, non-contact tonometer and lensometer.
  • Operate specialized ophthalmic equipment; Pentacam, OCT, visual field and anterior/posterior segment camera.
  • Apply drops to anesthetize, dilate, or medicate eyes.
  • Measure intraocular pressure of eyes (glaucoma test).
  • Test field of vision, including central and peripheral vision, for defects, and chart test results on graph paper.
  • Measure axial length of eye, using ultrasound equipment.
  • Provides rigid and soft contact lens insertion/removal classes and understands contact lens cleaning and storing procedures.
  • Maintain effective communication with patients and staff and performs ocular triage for patients who call or walk in the clinic.
  • Conduct basic maintenance on office equipment.
