About Faithful America

Faithful America is a network of progressive Christians demonstrating our faith through bold, prophetic action for a more equitable, free, and loving world. We\'re a community of Christians from all denominations and none, churched and unchurched, who integrate spiritual practice and organized action to love our neighbors and to resist those twisting our faith to cause them harm. Since 2004, we have been educating, organizing, and mobilizing social-justice Christians to advance Jesus\' prophetic vision of God\'s Kingdom and to challenge White Christian Nationalism and all the ways it harms our neighbors, our faith, and our democracy. We are building grassroots power to oppose the Christofascist Trump regime and effectively transform unjust systems and ideologies that are built and sustained by those in power -- whether they be faith leaders, politicians, or companies.

Position Overview

Faithful America is seeking a resourceful and highly organized Operations Manager to oversee and strengthen our internal operations and administrative systems. This is a new role on our small but growing team, offering the opportunity to both manage day-to-day operations and build the systems that will support our long-term sustainability.

This position will be the sixth full-time staff role at Faithful America, joining a dedicated team of employees, freelancers, and an engaged Board of Directors.

In the near term, the Operations Manager will take ownership of essential day-to-day finances, people operations, procurement, and technology; provide governance and planning support; and support key organizational functions. Over time, the Operations Manager will also lead efforts to improve and scale our systems, identifying opportunities to increase efficiency, strengthen compliance processes, and better support our mission. This may include streamlining financial reporting, improving organizational file management and data practices, and designing processes that help the team work more effectively as we grow. We\'re looking for someone with meticulous attention to detail, a high degree of initiative, and strong alignment with our mission and values.

Qualifications

Note: We know there are great candidates who might not check all the boxes listed below, or who possess important skills we haven’t thought of as it relates to this position and the organization writ large. If that’s you, please don\'t hesitate to apply and tell us about yourself.

You could be great for this role if:

  • You have at least 2 years of operations experience (ideally in a nonprofit or campaign setting). Hands-on experience in day-to-day organizational finances is highly desired.
  • You resonate deeply with Faithful America\'s mission, vision and values.
  • You are unfailingly trustworthy, bringing a strong sense of ethics and honesty to your work and handling sensitive information with discretion and integrity.
  • You approach your work with a task-oriented, solutions-focused attitude, can manage complex work without getting overwhelmed, and are good at staying composed when things get hectic.
  • You\'re self-motivated and good at working independently, while also knowing when to reach out for guidance or collaboration.
  • You are highly organized with a strong and consistent attention to detail.
  • You are an adaptable, resilient problem-solver who is good at anticipating challenges and finding practical solutions before problems escalate.
  • You have a deep curiosity about the world and an ongoing commitment to learning and growing.
  • You\'re a good all-around communicator with a knack for building trust and bringing people along with new ideas or changes.
  • You possess a strong professional aptitude for technology (Google Workspace/Microsoft Office Suite, Zoom, etc.), are comfortable learning new systems and software, and have aptitude for understanding evolving cybersecurity best practices.
  • You have a strong equity lens and can work effectively across lines of personal difference.
  • You have a social and political understanding of various types of systemic oppression -- such as White Supremacy, patriarchy, and heteronormativity (as distinct from overt bigotry or discrimination) -- and are committed to fighting oppression in its many forms.

Although not required, strong candidates will have some of the following:

  • Experience at a progressive, mission-driven organization (e.g., an advocacy group, faith-based nonprofit, political campaign, labor union, or similar), especially one that was small or a start-up.
  • Experience overseeing payroll, reviewing financial statements, and/or using QuickBooks Online.
  • Day-to-day financial management experience in a non-profit setting which included multiple legal entities and/or multiple restricted grant funding streams.
  • Experience developing and implementing organizational policies and processes.
  • Experience in project management and/or managing organizational change processes, particularly around the adoption of new or upgraded systems.
  • Proven effectiveness in building or improving accounting and finance infrastructure, and/or strong familiarity with non-profit accounting functions, processes, and governance norms.
  • Demonstrable experience with audits, legal compliance, and budget development.
  • Formal education related to accounting, business administration, human resources, financial management, non-profit management, or a related field.
  • Experience using Quickbooks, JustWorks, Concur, Bill.com, and/or other similar finance and operations platforms.
  • Experience researching and implementing cybersecurity best/better practices in organizational or team contexts.
  • Experience assessing and managing different kinds of risks relevant to 501(c)(3)s and 501(c)(4)s (e.g. financial, legal, physical, digital, health & safety, reputational, etc).
  • A background that includes active involvement in progressive social movements, particularly those that work to support racial justice, environmental justice, economic justice, gender equity, and/or immigrant rights.

Compensation

This position offers a salary range of $60,000 - $70,000.

Benefits include a monthly health-care stipend of $550, short-term and long-term disability insurance, access to a non-matched 401(k) program, and benefits for wellness and self-care.

Employees receive 18 days of paid vacation their first year plus 1 additional day each year of employment, unlimited personal sick time, 7 paid caregiver days, 7 paid family leave days, and 13 paid holidays. The Faithful America office may also close between Christmas and New Year’s, and on three Fridays each summer.

Structure and Schedule

This is a full-time, exempt position that reports to Faithful America’s Executive Director. The workload will average approximately 40 hours/week. Faithful America is committed to supporting a healthy work/life balance for all of our employees through flexible hours and wellness benefits. The position involves telecommuting and working in a virtual office, and will require consistent phone and internet access at your home office location. A laptop, phone stipend, and other office support will be supplied. We are open to candidates located anywhere in the contiguous United States. Occasional travel may be required (e.g., member events, trainings, staff retreats), in line with public health guidelines.

How to apply

The application deadline is 11:59pm (Pacific Time) on Sunday, October 19. We anticipate 2 rounds of interviews and one timed skills test that should take less than 3 hours to complete. If we ask you to take a skills test, you will be given an honorarium for the time you spend on it. Finalists will be asked for references.
