Job summary

Rocket Factory Augsburg (RFA) is seeking a Network & Infrastructure Engineer to keep our IT systems secure, scalable, and highly available across sites. You will design, implement, and maintain network, firewall, VPN, and virtualization environments.

Join a hands-on team in a fast-growing aerospace company and contribute to reliability, performance, and security with VMware/Proxmox, Linux support, and documentation excellence.

Qualifications

• Degree in CS/IT/Engineering required.
• Professional certifications CCNA/CCNP or VMware VCP or Fortinet NSE/FCP preferred.
• Hands-on experience designing and troubleshooting enterprise networks.
• Strong knowledge of Layer 2/3, VLANs, routing, switching, redundancy.
• Experience with firewall administration, VPNs (IPSec), routers, and switches.
• VMware-based virtualization in production environments.
• Ability to document processes and maintain standards.
• Professional English communication.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain secure and reliable network infrastructure.
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize Layer 2 and Layer 3 networks for performance and security.
• Manage virtualized infrastructure environments based on VMware, Proxmox technologies and storage platforms.
• Ensure high availability, business continuity, and disaster recovery readiness across multiple locations.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to support Linux-based systems, automation, and improvements.
• Investigate and resolve networking incidents with root-cause analysis.
• Maintain clear technical documentation, procedures, and infrastructure standards.

As a Network & Infrastructure Engineer (m/f/d), you will play a critical role in ensuring that our IT systems are secure, scalable, and highly available across our engineering, manufacturing, and test facilities.

Your Tasks

• Design, implement, and maintain secure and reliable network infrastructure, including firewalls, routers, switches, VPNs, and related services.
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize Layer 2 and Layer 3 network environments to ensure high performance, stability, and security.
• Manage and enhance virtualized infrastructure environments based on VMware, Proxmox technologies and associated storage platforms.
• Ensure high availability, business continuity, and disaster recovery readiness across multiple company locations.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to support Linux-based systems, infrastructure automation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Investigate and resolve networking and infrastructure incidents while providing technical support and root-cause analysis.
• Maintain clear and up-to-date technical documentation, operational procedures, and infrastructure standards.

Your Qualifications

Must-Have Skills

• Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
• Industry certifications such as:Cisco CCNA / CCNP,VMware VCP,Fortinet NSE / FCP,Similar networking or infrastructure certifications
• Strong hands-on experience designing, administering, and troubleshooting enterprise network environments.
• Deep understanding of Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking concepts, including VLANs, routing, switching, network segmentation, and redundancy mechanisms.
• Practical experience with firewall administration, VPN technologies (including IPSec VPNs), routers, and managed switches.
• Experience managing VMware-based virtualized infrastructure in production environments.
• Knowledge of storage technologies, backup solutions, and disaster recovery concepts.
• Ability to diagnose and resolve complex infrastructure and networking issues in a structured and efficient manner.
• Experience creating and maintaining technical documentation, operational processes, and infrastructure standards.
• Professional proficiency in English, both written and spoken.

Nice-to-Have Skills

• Experience working with Linux-based systems and server administration.
• Familiarity with infrastructure automation, scripting, or configuration management tools.
• Experience supporting multi-site or globally distributed infrastructure environments.
• Exposure to security best practices, network hardening, and infrastructure monitoring solutions.
• Experience within manufacturing, aerospace, engineering, or other highly technical environments.
