In this role, you will work closely with our customers to design and implement innovative, complex mechatronic solutions.

Summary: The Application Engineer (MAE) enhances sales and market share for Festo in North America. They focus on Mechatronics, especially Motion Control products such as Servo Drives and Motors, PLCs, HMIs, Motion Controllers, I/O Devices, Electromechanical Actuators, and Cartesian Robots. The MAE provides technical expertise during pre-sales, considering commercial factors, and collaborates across teams. They also lead post-sales technical support, guiding customers from project inception to operation, closing sales, and creating new opportunities.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Provide technical advice and support to sales, partners, and customers on applications and production processes.
  • Create technical content for marketing, including tutorials and videos.
  • Engage with control groups on public platforms to stay updated on market trends.
  • Develop relationships with controls engineers at customer organizations.
  • Maintain communication with other MAEs and Technical Support teams across North America.
  • Support onsite prototype startups, with knowledge of PLC software, network configuration, and device integration.
  • Establish and maintain a library of software applications to streamline commissioning.
  • Gather and relay customer feedback to Product Management.
  • Work with Technical Support to resolve customer issues.
  • Evaluate technical and commercial feasibility of proposals.
  • Discuss and optimize machine performance with customers, focusing on increasing component sales.
  • Contribute to machine design discussions and specifications.
  • Support compliance with norms and regulations.
  • Identify and secure projects based on application and automation expertise.
  • Share knowledge to promote solutions adoption.
  • May require additional hours and travel for training, customer visits, or company events.
  • Act as technical interface during pre-sales, coordinating with Sales Engineers.
  • Provide technical training and knowledge transfer to teams.
  • Collaborate with Technical Support on customer issues.

Experience / Education Preferred:

  • English required; Spanish is a plus.
  • Ability to interpret complex documents and respond effectively to inquiries.
  • Effective presentation skills for technical topics.
  • Experience with IEC-3 programming languages, CODESYS, Rockwell Studio, Siemens TIA Portal, Beckhoff TwinCAT 3, Omron Sysmac Studio, plus Python, C++, C#, LabVIEW.
  • Familiarity with EtherCAT, EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, Modbus TCP, TCP/IP, IO-Link.
  • Understanding of motion control, PLCs, and I/O design.
  • Ability to size and design servo motor applications.
  • Knowledge of pneumatics and pneumatic control logic.
  • CAD skills.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechatronics, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering; MBA preferred.
  • 5-10+ years in project management, controls engineering, sales, or technical support in automation.
  • Experience with Festo is a plus.
  • Solid knowledge of industrial automation, robotics, and customer responsibility.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
