In this role, you will work closely with our customers to solve their automation needs by designing and implementing innovative, complex mechatronic solutions.

Summary:Application Engineer (MAE) plays a vital role in enhancing sales and market share for Festo in the North American Market. They specialize in Mechatronics, focusing on Motion Control technology and products like Servo Drives and Motors, PLCs, HMIs, Motion Controllers, I/O Devices, Ball Screw and Toothed Belt Electromechanical Actuators, and Cartesian Robots. The MAE provides in-depth technical knowledge during pre-sales, considers commercial factors, and collaborates with multidisciplinary teams. They also lead post-sales technical support, guiding customers from project inception to acceptance/operation, closing sales, and creating new opportunities.

Key Accountabilities:

• Provide technical advice and support to sales, partners, and customers regarding applications and production processes.
• Create technical content for marketing, including tutorials and videos.
• Engage with control groups on public platforms to stay updated on market trends.
• Develop relationships with controls engineers at customer sites.
• Maintain communication with other MAEs and Technical Support teams across North America.
• Support onsite customer startup activities, including proof of concept, network configuration, and device integration.
• Establish and maintain a repository of software applications and libraries for streamlined commissioning.
• Gather and relay customer feedback to Product Management.
• Collaborate with Technical Support to resolve technical issues.
• Evaluate the feasibility of proposals based on technical and commercial considerations.
• Discuss technical proposals to optimize machine performance and increase component sales.
• Contribute to machine design discussions, specifications, and regulations compliance.
• Identify and secure projects based on application and automation expertise.
• Share knowledge to promote adoption of solutions.
• Work additional hours and travel as necessary for business needs.
• Act as the key technical interface during pre-sales, and provide training and knowledge transfer.
• Work closely with Technical Support to address customer issues.

Experience / Education Preferred:

• English required; Spanish a plus.
• Ability to analyze and interpret technical documents.
• Effective communication and presentation skills.
• Experience with IEC-3 programming languages, CODESYS, Rockwell Studio, Siemens TIA Portal, Beckhoff TwinCAT 3, Omron Sysmac Studio, plus Python, C++, C#, LabVIEW.
• Knowledge of EtherCAT, EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, Modbus TCP, TCP/IP, IO-Link.
• Understanding of motion control, PLCs, I/O sizing and design.
• Familiarity with pneumatics and CAD.
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering; MBA preferred.
• 5-10+ years in project management, controls engineering, sales, or technical support in industrial automation.
• Experience in Festo or similar companies is a plus.
• Strong knowledge of industrial automation, robotics, and customer responsibility.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
