As an Oakwell engineer, you will serve as an owner’s engineer and trusted partner, exercising professional autonomy and combining technical leadership with strategic influence to shape major infrastructure initiatives from concept through completion.

The Mechanical Engineer will collaborate closely with senior Oakwell engineers and health system clients to:

  • Conceptualize and implement a 10-year sustainability and decarbonization plan in partnership with senior engineers and the client/owner
  • Evaluate and benchmark sites to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions
  • Reduce energy costs
  • Renew infrastructure and promote electrification efforts
  • Align sustainability initiatives with the client’s facility real estate master plan
  • Develop sustainable MEP building construction standards

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assess existing site energy use, carbon emissions, and benchmark against similar facilities
  • Audit, analyze, and document facilities and MEP systems
  • Review existing condition drawings
  • Collaborate with facility staff to gather operational data and identify system deficiencies
  • Retro-commission mechanical systems including central plants, air handling, and energy management systems
  • Develop multi-phased Energy Conservation Measures (ECMs) to reduce energy consumption and costs
  • Estimate savings using custom energy modeling software
  • Produce detailed reports on facility conditions, recommendations, and ROI
  • Conduct technical assistance studies for utility efficiency incentives
  • Present findings and recommendations to clients
  • Prepare scope of work narratives, EMS points lists, and sequences of operations for contractor pricing
  • Create scaled drawings and specifications for system installation and modifications
  • Lead construction meetings for ECM implementation
  • Commission new systems and control strategies
  • Develop sustainable MEP building standards for clients

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 5 to 7 years of experience as a Mechanical Engineer
  • Current or in-progress Professional Engineering License
  • Availability to travel up to 20%
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and AutoCAD software
