Jobbeschreibung

Optimus Search is collaborating with a well-established technology company based in Jena, recognised for its long-standing contribution to the semiconductor industry. The organisation specialises in the development of micromechanical and optoelectronic components and plays a key role in advancing plasma processes and laser-based analytical methods used for high-precision material characterisation. Their work bridges the gap between research and industrial application, supporting customers in improving the performance and reliability of semiconductor materials and manufacturing processes.

With several sites across Germany, the company fosters a collaborative environment that values technical excellence, innovation, and scientific curiosity. They are now searching for a Materials Scientist to add to their growing team of specialists!

Your Tasks
  • Carry out research into mechanical stress within semiconductor materials such as silicon, silicon carbide, gallium arsenide, and other compound systems.
  • Investigate the origin and behaviour of defects, including their generation mechanisms across different material types.
  • Simulate stress fields surrounding a variety of defect structures to understand their influence on material integrity and performance.
  • Design and enhance algorithms for advanced defect characterisation and analysis.
  • Assess the impact of stress and defects at various stages of the semiconductor production process.
  • Conduct demonstration and application measurements, analyse experimental data, and present results to customers.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations at international conferences, contributing to discussions within the scientific community.
  • Publish research findings in relevant journals or proceedings.
  • Option to undertake a PhD alongside the role, for those interested in pursuing academic qualifications in parallel.
Your Profile
  • Master’s degree (or higher) in Materials Science, Physics, or Engineering; a PhD is advantageous.
  • Solid understanding of semiconductor materials and processes, ideally with hands-on experience in the industry.
  • Knowledge of optical metrology or related characterisation techniques is preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a structured and methodical approach to research.
  • Excellent communication skills and an ability to discuss complex topics with both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for international conferences and customer meetings (approximately 5%).
  • Fluent in English; additional languages are an advantage.
