Material Science / Chemical engineer – Polymer coatings and adhesives

HEGGEL GmbH, a leading company active in the field of industrial protective coating systems based in Essen, Germany, is seeking chemistry engineers / chemical or material scientists to join its team. As a valued and important member of HEGGEL, you will work cross-functionally and flexibly, handle responsibilities in a structured and autonomous manner, and work predominantly in an office environment.

We innovatively design and produce high-performance corrosion protection coatings, linings, and floorings for various applications. Our products are characterized by extraordinary chemical resistance, abrasion resistance, and weatherability. We offer a broad spectrum of polymer coating, lining, and flooring products with some of the highest performance properties in today's global industry, meeting customer demands with highly efficient and cost-effective, world-class solutions.

Responsibilities:

1. Work with senior formulation scientists in planning and executing research and development projects for improved and new polymer adhesives, coatings, and linings.
2. Facilitate and document technical collaboration within internal and external teams.
3. Participate in research and product development tasks such as material sourcing, laboratory-scale production processes, material characterization, testing, and quality control.
4. Assist the sales and commercial teams, taking responsibility for technical projects with customers.
5. Develop effective and competitive solutions for customer problems using sound engineering and chemistry principles, leveraging company literature.
6. Respond to inquiries from internal and external parties regarding products, testing, application, and development, supporting the rapid and successful commercialization of new products.
7. Show willingness to learn new skills and perform additional duties as assigned.

Education, Competences & Abilities:

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Material Science, or related fields.
• High flexibility to work across different departments and handle multiple tasks.
• Good communication skills for collaboration with internal teams, formulation scientists, sales representatives, suppliers, and customers.
• Ability to search and interpret scientific literature and gain insights into competitor technologies.
• Basic laboratory experience.
• Proficiency in MS-Office applications.
• Fluency in both written and spoken German and English.
