Jobbeschreibung

The current challenges facing society with regard to energy supply require us to reduce emissions, make greater use of renewable energies and utilise energy efficiently. As an institute of the German Aerospace Centre (DLR), we contribute to meeting these challenges of our time and helping to shape the future.

In the Electrochemical Energy Technology department, electrochemical reactors and storage systems play a key role in shaping our future with renewable energy from the sun and wind. These include batteries, fuel cells and electrolysers. They are essential building blocks for a future energy system that can be used in both stationary energy supply and electromobility.

What to expect

The Department Electrochemical Energy Technology of the Institute of Engineering Thermodynamics is involved in the development of next-generation battery systems, which are characterized by the use of available and thus cost-effective materials (e. g. Mg, Ca, Zn, S), safe cell operation and high energy density. Novel electrodes and electrolytes are produced, applied in battery cells and characterized using established but also innovative measurement methods. The objective of your work is to realize reversible calcium metal anodes by further developing existing electrolyte systems in order to enhance the cycling stability of Ca secondary batteries. Through the work in the multi-layered subject areas - from the production of the cells, the use and construction of measurement systems to the evaluation of the recorded data - a deep and comprehensive understanding of the cell chemistry and functioning of batteries is achieved.

  • development of ex situ coatings and electrolyte additives for desired in situ SEI formation on metals (Mg, Ca, Li)
  • investigation of interfacial processes at coated / pristine metal anodes in different electrolyte systems
  • application of suitable electrochemical and spectroscopic methods (e. g. EIS, SEM-EDX, XPS), as well as development of innovative measurement concepts
  • evaluation, documentation and interpretation of measurement results

Your profile

  • degree in engineering or natural sciences in the field of chemistry, physics, materials science, process engineering, energy technology or similar
  • enjoy experimental work, high level of motivation, initiative and independence
  • knowledge of analytics, measurement technology, Origin and Python is desirable
  • a basic understanding of electrochemistry and the cell processes in batteries is an advantage
  • fluent German and English

We look forward to getting to know you!

We offer

DLR stands for diversity, appreciation and equality for all people. We promote independent work and the individual development of our employees both personally and professionally. To this end, we offer numerous training and development opportunities. Equal opportunities are of particular importance to us, which is why we want to increase the proportion of women in science and management in particular. Applicants with severe disabilities will be given preference if they are qualified.
