Position Description :

Nikon SLM Solutions offers a wide range of exciting R&D projects that can be scaled within a student master thesis. We are seeking a self-motivated, highly skilled student who is in the final phase of their master’s studies. Nikon SLM Solutions will provide comprehensive on-the-job training.

  • Investigate the SLM process to determine how to build specific challenging geometries and materials.
  • Collaborate with technicians, engineers, and scientists in an international environment on challenging projects related to SLM process and material parameter development.
  • Conduct full material characterization, including mechanical properties, density analysis (cross sections, Archimedes, CT), microstructural investigations, SEM, EBSD chemical analysis, fracture surface analysis, and roughness investigations.
  • Correlate overall input parameters with resulting material properties and characteristics.
  • Prepare detailed reports of experiments for internal use and write a comprehensive research report in your master thesis about an exciting project. Depending on the research topic, there might be an opportunity to publish an external white paper.
Qualifications and Requirements :
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in engineering (e.g., mechanical, aerospace) or physics with a focus on materials science.
  • Prior experience with CAM software (e.g., Magics, Build Processor, Netfabb, NX) is beneficial.
  • Strong scientific research knowledge and analytical skills.
  • Basic skills in material characterization and understanding of laboratory procedures.
