University: GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel
Country: Germany
Deadline: 10 September 2025
Applications are invited for highly motivated postdoctoral researchers interested in participating in the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship (MSCA PF) 2025 call. The selected candidate will join a collaborative research effort focused on advanced 3D hydrothermal modelling of the Galapagos volcanic platform, hosted at GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel, Germany, with opportunities for secondment at the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI), USA.
Project Overview
The project addresses the fundamental processes governing fluid flow and chemical exchange in basaltic volcanic platforms, with a specific focus on the Galápagos region. Applicants will utilize and further develop 3D geological and hydrothermal models, integrating bathymetric, geological, and ROV-derived data to simulate fluid circulation and its implications for geomorphology and biogeochemical cycles over glacial-interglacial timescales.
Requirements
– PhD awarded by the application deadline
– No more than 8 years of full-time research experience post-PhD
– Compliance with MSCA mobility rules (not resided or worked in Germany for more than 12 months in the past 3 years)
– Strong background in hydrogeology, mathematical modelling, marine geology, or related disciplines
– Demonstrated experience in numerical or hydrogeological modelling
– Willingness to engage with advanced numerical code frameworks
Opportunities
– Work with leading research teams at GEOMAR and MBARI
– Access to world-class research facilities and interdisciplinary training
– Develop advanced skills in 3D geological and hydrothermal modelling
– Enhance your international research profile
Application Procedure
Interested candidates should submit a CV and a brief statement of research interests to Dr. Shubhangi Gupta at sgupta@geomar.de, using the subject line: Interest in MSCAPF2025 – Galapagos. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, and shortlisted candidates will be contacted for further discussion and proposal development.
