Job Title: European Mid-Market Manager/Associate Director

Location: Munich, Germany

Department: Structured & Private Equity Team

Reporting to: European Mid-Market Managing Director

The European Mid‑Market team recently announced a €3bn close for Mid‑Market Fund II, a 300% increase over the prior fund vintage. The fund is already deployed across eight investments, and the team of 25 employees spans the UK, France, Germany and the Nordics. The German office will comprise two members following this hire; the fund head sits in the UK.

Both Mid‑Market FundII and ICG Europe FundIX pursue partnership capital to invest alongside founders and leading management teams. They differ from competitors by offering flexible structuring—minority and majority equity, as well as structured solutions such as preferred equity—allowing sourcing of unique, less competitive opportunities with stronger risk‑adjusted returns. Mid‑Market is a pan‑European player in a segment dominated by single‑country funds, which is attractive to many management teams.

Primary focus of the role will be to build investment theses for opportunities, prepare investment committee papers and financial models, and generally support the deal lead to close deals. Ambitious candidates may lead key transaction execution workstreams and drive significant input.

Responsibilities

• Deal Identification / Origination: Assist senior team members and leverage your own network to originate new investments, concentrating on mezzanine and equity deals sized €75m‑€250m.
• Research into potential targets for direct approaches.
• Manage new and existing relationships with bankers, private equity sponsors, M&A advisors, accountants, lawyers and consultants to secure referrals and source deals.
• Screening / Analysis: Perform financial modelling and evaluate proposals; produce deal summaries and investment papers.
• Market/sector monitoring and analysis.
• Due Diligence: Lead financial and commercial due‑diligence workstreams, ensuring all relevant information is identified and incorporated into reports.
• Lead sector expert calls and summarise findings.
• Participate in and sometimes lead management‑team meetings.
• Deal Closing: Drive, manage and coordinate most activities through the entire deal process, from initial negotiations to final implementation, including investment structure, debt structuring and covenant negotiation, tax structuring, locked boxes and fund flows.
• Portfolio Management: Act as a board member for investment companies where applicable; support investee companies with financial and operational issues and monitor performance against targets.
• Annual Performance Expectations: Provide timely and accurate analysis, modelling and evaluations; demonstrate independent thought and proactivity; produce thorough investment‑committee papers focused on key issues.

Key Requirements / Qualifications

• German market experience.
• 8+ years of relevant experience (investment banking, Big4, or preferably strategy consulting) in private equity or asset management with €250m+ AUM or similar.
• Private equity background (credit background also considered favorably).
• Fluency in German (written and spoken) and English.
• Willingness to travel across the DACH region and to the UK/international offices as required.
