Job Summary:
Installs, maintains, and repairs machinery, equipment, physical structures, and pipe and electrical systems in commercial or industrial establishments by performing the following essential job functions:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Visually inspects and tests machinery and equipment.
- Listens for unusual sounds from machines or equipment to detect malfunctions and discusses machine operation variations with supervisors or other maintenance workers to diagnose problems or repair machines.
- Dismantles defective machines and equipment and installs new or repaired parts.
- Cleans and lubricates shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery.
- Installs and repairs minor electrical and electronic components of machinery and equipment.
- Lays out, assembles, installs, and maintains pipe systems and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, and repairs and replaces gauges, valves, pressure regulators, and related equipment.
- Repairs and maintains the physical structure of the establishment.
- Operates cutting torches or welding equipment to cut or join metal parts.
- This position must be available for weekend work schedules.
- Follow and maintain the plant's preventative maintenance (PM) program.
- Ensure all paperwork is filled out accurately, legibly, and completely with required information.
- Follow Good Manufacturing Practices.
- Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures, and complying with legal codes and regulations.
- Report any animal welfare-related issues to management immediately.
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
- Comply with all company policies and procedures.
Education and Experience Requirements:
The minimum qualifications include, but are not limited to:
- Successful completion of trade or vocational school or 4 years of equivalent work experience in a production environment.
- Associate degree in mechanical, electrical, or engineering specialties.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to act competently in emergencies.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge and experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, fabrication, and welding.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to make decisions independently with minimal supervision.
- Proficiency in basic math and record-keeping.
- Ability to install, program, or repair automated machinery and equipment (plus, but not required).
- Ability to operate machine tools (plus, but not required).
- Basic computer skills including Maintenance CMMS systems and Outlook.
- Strong teamwork skills and willingness to assist others.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to adhere to work schedules and policies.
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to walk, stand, bend, stretch, push, pull, and reach as needed.
- Must be able to visually inspect machines.
- Ability to grasp with hands.
- Ability to ascend/descend stairs and ladders safely, sometimes while carrying weight.
- Must be able to move weights of 50 pounds alone and over 80 pounds with assistance.
- Work conditions include office, farms, and potential exposure to odors, fumes, chemicals, and weather conditions.
- Noise levels may be loud at times.
