We are looking for reinforcement in our IT Infrastructure Department (IT-IS) to help build a cloud computing infrastructure based on OpenStack and Kubernetes. The goal is to provide scalable Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) and Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) solutions for both core IT operations and scientific IT teams.

At HZB, we’re facing the exciting challenge of rethinking our entire IT infrastructure. In doing so, we are focusing heavily on automated and containerized solutions. In particular, we plan to increasingly rely on Kubernetes for the flexible, secure, and future-proof deployment of a wide range of applications in both scientific and core IT areas.

Linux System Administrator (f/m/d) - Kubernetes

Responsibilities

1. Design, build, and maintain cloud computing systems (Kubernetes, OpenStack)
2. Plan and implement IT projects in the area of cloud computing
3. Automate deployment processes through CI/CD pipelines (e.g., with FluxCD)
4. Evaluate new technologies for use in the Centre to further develop our modern IT platform
5. Share your expertise with colleagues from different teams through various formats

Qualifications

1. Bachelor's degree in computer science or a comparable field, or equivalent experience and skills
2. Knowledge of Kubernetes and container technologies (e.g., Docker, Podman, Rancher)
3. Good knowledge of Linux operating systems, TCP/IP networks, and IT monitoring tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana)
4. Structured, solution-oriented working style, passion for the topic, and team enjoyment
5. Good communication skills in German and English (at least B2 CEFR)
