Linux Software Engineer

The Linux Software Engineer will be a key part of the System Architecture team to develop and maintain the Linux-based systems powering our unmanned aerial vehicles at Quantum‑Systems. You will work with Avionics, Systems Engineering and Flight Testing stakeholders to integrate hardware, third‑party software and onboard applications into a high‑performance Linux platform.

Day to Day Mission
  • Maintain existing and create new Linux applications on the unmanned aircraft.
  • Design and coordinate interfaces between teams, and document architecture and design decisions.
  • Integrate hardware and third‑party software into the Linux system, coordinating with suppliers and teams.
  • Test existing and new applications, writing unit, integration, functional and acceptance tests.
  • Analyze logs from test and customer flights.
  • Debug and resolve software and hardware issues related to the Linux system.
  • Maintain and extend the build system, pipeline and tooling, and create releases with release notes.
  • Work in an agile environment and follow the defined development process.
What you bring to the team
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in Linux software development, preferably in embedded or robotics systems.
  • Strong proficiency in C/C++ (C++14 or newer) with proven experience developing Linux applications.
  • Solid understanding of Linux internals, including system services, device trees and kernel modules.
  • Experience with cross‑compilation, Yocto, Buildroot or similar build systems.
  • Hands‑on experience with debugging tools (GDB, strace, perf) and log analysis.
  • Familiarity with testing methodologies, including writing and executing unit, integration and system‑level tests.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, version control (Git) and release management.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills, able to debug both software and hardware integration issues.
  • Proficiency in technical documentation, including interface definitions and architectural decisions.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills to collaborate across engineering disciplines.
  • Fluent in English, written and spoken.
Plus
  • Experience in aerospace, UAV or automotive industries.
  • Familiarity with middleware and interface standards such as DDS, MAVLink, CAN or Ethernet.
  • Knowledge of containerization technologies (Docker) and virtualization.
  • Prior experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment.
  • Exposure to real‑time Linux or safety‑critical software development.
