Job summary

Lloyds Bank Deutschland is seeking an experienced in-house lawyer to provide German law advice to business departments in Berlin. The role involves reviewing lending documentation, product-related questions, and day-to-day requests from stakeholders, and ensuring contracts comply with applicable law and regulation.

The candidate will coordinate with outside counsel, manage regulatory matters in banking, and contribute to trainings and awareness on legal risk across the organization.

Qualifications

• 1st and 2nd Legal State Examinations or comparable.
• Experience in a banking or financial services environment is required.
• Fluency in German and English is essential.

Responsibilities

• Provide German law advice to business departments.
• Review and advise on lending documentation and day-to-day requests from business stakeholders.
• Analyse and advise the business on all relevant German/EU regulatory matters and ensuring contracts remain in compliance with applicable law and regulation.
• Liaise with outside counsel as well as with other lawyers of the Group.
• Review, draft and negotiate Supplier agreements.
• Advice the business on legal matters of Civil Law and Banking Supervisory Law.
• Keep abreast of legislative changes that may affect the Bank.
• Support the business to interpret legal and regulatory developments and cooperate with internal stakeholders.
• Raise internal awareness on legal and regulatory risks and develop and provide relevant trainings.
• Responsible for the implementation of medium to high-materiality/ high-risk-exposure policies and the performance of allocated controls.

• Independently lead projects and/or the Legal & Compliance workstream within projects

Your knowledge/experience:

• 1st and 2nd Legal State Examination or comparable
• Several years of relevant experience in an international law firm or inhouse legal experience in Banking
• Sound knowledge of the economic background and regulatory aspects of Banking and Finance
• Proven ability to assimilate complex information and support decision making within the business
• Conceptual understanding of the principles of the business area including a detailed knowledge of relevant legislation
• Ability to interpret and unravel complex cases and provide solutions to improve relations/processes
• Excellent communication skills both verbal and in writing (German and English)
