Job summary

Genki is looking for a Lead Web Engineer to oversee the technical direction of all web projects while working in a fully remote environment. This role involves end-to-end development of applications and collaboration with non-web developers and designers.

Role

Lead Web Engineer – own the technical direction of all internal and public web projects. Unify organically grown code, build the foundation for upcoming work, and start as the sole web engineer with a growing team. Work alongside two non‑web developers, report directly to the CEO, and collaborate closely with the designer.

Responsibilities

• Own the end‑to‑end development and shipping of web applications, from static sites to complex SPAs.
• Make major architectural decisions and maintain them to evaluate their effectiveness.
• Build and maintain cross‑project infrastructure such as shared component libraries, CI/CD pipelines, monorepo setups, and deployment automation.
• Ensure security, reliability, and maintainability of production systems.
• Create tooling and processes that allow non‑engineers to ship software safely, with standardized review, security checks, and deployment guards.

Qualifications

• Proven experience shipping production web applications end to end.
• Strong understanding of web security, performance optimisation, and browser capabilities.
• Hands‑on experience with TypeScript, React, Next.js, Astro, and SCSS modules.
• Experience with CI/CD, testing strategies, and developer tooling for teams.
• Daily use of AI‑agentic development tools such as Claude Code or equivalent, and knowledge of how to steer them effectively.
• Sharp eye for detail, from pixel‑perfect implementation to clean and consistent code.
