Lead Microsoft Engineer – Datacenter Migration/Modernization

Job Description:

Summary:

We are seeking a Lead Microsoft Systems Engineer to design, deploy, and oversee Microsoft platform services required for the migration and modernization of DoD data centers in Europe. This role includes architecting and migrating Active Directory, DNS, Federation Services, and related security services that support mission-critical applications. The Lead Microsoft Systems Engineer will coordinate closely with network and cybersecurity leads to ensure seamless service availability and security compliance during and after migration.

Core Role Responsibilities:

  • Lead planning, design, and cutover strategies for Microsoft-based shared services.
  • Ensure service availability, integrity, and security during migration events.
  • Mentor and direct engineers supporting Microsoft technologies.
  • Develop migration runbooks, validation plans, and contingency procedures.
  • Coordinate with network and cybersecurity teams for service integration.
  • Ensure operational readiness of Microsoft services in the target data center.

Technical Knowledge & Leadership Responsibilities:

  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory architecture, deployment, and migration.
  • Proficient with DNS, Federation Services, and authentication mechanisms.
  • Skilled in backup/restore, disaster recovery, and high-availability configurations.
  • Understanding of dependent application requirements and inter-service dependencies.
  • Ability to apply DoD cybersecurity hardening standards to Microsoft environments.
  • Proficient in using automation and scripting languages relevant to their technical domain (e.g., PowerShell for Microsoft systems, Python or REST API scripting, Bash/Python).
  • Experience developing scripts or using automation frameworks to streamline configuration management, system provisioning, monitoring, and reporting in enterprise data center environments.
  • Skilled in leveraging vendor-specific automation platforms and APIs (e.g. Microsoft Desired State Configuration (DSC) to improve operational efficiency and reduce manual intervention.

Minimum Education:

Bachelor Degree in Information Technology or related field

Minimum Experience:

Minimum 8+ years experience with Data Center Solutions, Data Center Engineering, and/or Data Center Migration.

Certifications:

Recommended Professional Certifications:

  • Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate
  • Microsoft Certified: Identity and Access Administrator Associate
  • CompTIA Security+ or CISSP (preferred)
  • ITIL Foundation

TESA Accreditation Requirements: A bachelor's degree plus 3 years of recent specialized experience, OR; An associate's degree plus 7 years of recent specialized experience, OR; A major certification (as defined and accepted by DOCPER) plus 7 years of recent specialized experience, OR; 11 years of recent specialized experience

Location: On Customer Site, US Citizenship Required. Clearance: Secret
