Zusammenfassung

Duke Energy is seeking an experienced engineer to provide strategic programmatic direction for substation equipment and to lead engineering teams across design, construction, planning, and maintenance. You will approve new equipment, develop specifications, and coordinate warranty resolutions while aligning with industry standards and regulatory requirements.

You will develop bid packages, manage vendor relationships, and supervise inspections and design reviews.

Qualifikationen

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering is required.
  • ABET-accredited program is required.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) certification is required.
  • Eight (8) years related work experience is required.
  • Ability to work legally in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future.
  • Strong engineering theory and principles knowledge.
  • Experience researching engineering and design issues and presenting recommendations.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong project-management skills.
  • Willingness to work from remote and onsite locations after onboarding.
  • Willingness to travel 5–15%.
  • Master’s degree in Engineering may substitute for a B.S. degree.

Aufgaben

  • Provide strategic programmatic direction for substation equipment including arresters, insulators, batteries/chargers, coils, instrument transformers, switches, and capacitors.
  • Offer technical leadership to engineering design, construction, planning, and maintenance teams.
  • Approve new equipment, support projects and design, coordinate warranty resolutions, and develop equipment specifications.
  • Develop equipment specs integrating standards, reliability, costs, and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop bid packages and select manufacturers with Supply Chain.
  • Establish relationships with industry organizations and Duke Energy counterparts.
  • Review and retain vendors on approved bidders list and conduct qualification.
  • Perform equipment inspections, witness testing, and conduct design reviews.
  • Support procurement, item-number management, design changes, and change-management plans.
  • Provide leadership to field, design, standards engineers and technicians.
  • Negotiate and coordinate vendor warranty repairs.
  • Evaluate new designs and sponsor pilots when warranted.
  • Support development and maintenance of Equipment Rating Methodology.
  • Identify and resolve complex engineering problems.
  • Plan, organize, estimate, schedule, and monitor work activities.
  • Prepare technical reports, correspondence, calculations, and sketches.
  • Conduct complex engineering studies and projects.
  • Analyze and recommend business-process and standards improvements.
  • Coach and mentor engineering personnel.

Jobbeschreibung

  • Provide strategic programmatic direction for substation equipment including arresters and insulators, batteries/chargers, coils, instrument transformers, gang-operated switches, and capacitors
  • Provide technical expertise, leadership, and guidance to engineering design, construction, planning, and maintenance personnel
  • Approve new equipment and parts, support projects and replacement-part design, coordinate warranty resolutions, develop equipment specifications, and support field construction and maintenance
  • Develop and maintain equipment specifications incorporating design standards, reliability, maintenance, costs, industry standards, enterprise strategy, and regulatory requirements
  • Develop bid packages and select manufacturers and product offerings with Supply Chain
  • Establish working relationships with industry organizations and Duke Energy regional counterparts
  • Review and retain vendors on the approved bidders list, including factory and design qualification approval
  • Perform equipment inspections, witness manufacturer testing, and conduct design reviews
  • Support day-to-day procurement, item-number management, design changes, and change-management plans
  • Provide leadership and technical expertise to field, design, and standards engineers and craftsmen
  • Negotiate and coordinate vendor warranty repairs
  • Evaluate new designs and equipment, and sponsor pilots when warranted
  • Support development and maintenance of the Equipment Rating Methodology document

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program
  • Professional Engineer (PE)
  • Eight (8) years related work experience
  • Minimum of 8 years of engineering experience
  • Ability to work lawfully in the U.S. without employment-based immigration sponsorship, now or in the future
  • Skilled in engineering theories and principles
  • Skilled in researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations, and preparing and presenting recommendations
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Skilled in principles of project management
  • Ability to work from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period
  • Ability to live within a reasonable commute to the designated Duke Energy facility
  • Ability to travel 5–15%
  • A Master's degree in Engineering will be considered in lieu of the B.S. Engineering degree
