CHAS is seeking a Lead Advanced Nurse Practitioner to provide professional and clinical leadership for the ANP service across our hospice network and related settings. The role is based at Rachel House in Kinross or Robin House in Balloch, with regular travel between sites.

Lead Advanced Nurse Practitioner

Location: Rachel House in Kinross* or Robin House in Balloch
Salary: £65,530 - £70,404 per annum, pro rata, + unsocial hours premia 6%
Contract: Permanent, Full-time 37.5 hours per week

Introduction

At CHAS, we provide unwavering care to babies, children and young people with life-shortening conditions, and support their families across Scotland. We have an established and highly regarded Advanced Nurse Practitioner team who play a vital role in delivering expert palliative care, care around dying, education, leadership and service development. We are now seeking an exceptional Lead Advanced Nurse Practitioner to provide professional and clinical leadership for our ANP service and help shape the future of advanced practice across our two Hospices, children’s homes and hospital settings. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced ANP to lead a highly skilled team, contribute to strategic development across CHAS, and work collaboratively with colleagues throughout NHS Boards, Health and Social Care Partnerships and national networks. The successful candidate will provide visible leadership across the four pillars of advanced practice, ensuring the ANP service continues to deliver high quality, evidence-based care whilst supporting our ambition to reach more children and families across Scotland. This role will be based in either Robin House or Rachel House* with regular travel expected between both sites. On occasions the successful candidate will support palliative care and care around dying at home and in Hospitals.

• Rachel House, CHAS’ hospice in Kinross (KY13 8FX) is embarking on an exciting two-year rebuild programme from Summer/Autumn 2026. During this time our hospice services will continue to run from a temporary site in Kinglassie, Fife called Mina House (KY5 0XT). Mina House is a 20 minute drive from Rachel House.

About You

The successful candidate will be:

• A dynamic, registered nurse with a strong desire to develop advanced practice, share expertise and knowledge and work collaboratively within CHAS and with our partner agencies.
• Passionate about improving outcomes for children and young people with life-shortening conditions and their families.

We would like you to have the following qualifications, skills and experience:

• A NMC Registration RN/(child) with a PGDip in Advanced Practice including V300 Non-medical prescribing certification, A Master’s Qualification in Advanced Practice (MSc) is desirable.
• Education and experience to demonstrate advanced clinical competence in paediatric palliative care
• Evidence of training in quality improvement methodology and leadership.
• Experience of developing and delivering education programmes and supporting workforce development.
• A commitment to research, evidence-based practice and continuous improvement.

What You Will Do

As Lead ANP, you will provide strategic and operational leadership for the 7 day ANP service across both hospice sites, and contribute to the wider leadership of clinical services within CHAS. Your role will encompass the four pillars of advanced practice:

Clinical Practice

• Maintain advanced clinical practice and expert decision-making in children's palliative care.
• Provide specialist assessment, diagnosis, treatment and ongoing management of children and young people with complex needs.
• Support care delivery across hospice, hospital and community settings.
• Lead on clinical governance, quality assurance and professional standards within the ANP service.
• Work collaboratively with consultants, nursing teams and multidisciplinary colleagues to ensure safe, effective and person-centred care.

Leadership

• Provide professional leadership, supervision and support to the ANP team.
• Lead the implementation and ongoing development of the CHAS ANP Strategy.
• Act as a role model and advocate for advanced practice across CHAS and externally.
• Contribute to organisational strategy, service development and clinical leadership forums.
• Foster strong partnerships with NHS Boards, specialist services and national stakeholders.

Facilitating Learning

• Lead the development of education and competency frameworks for advanced practice.
• Support workforce planning and succession development within the ANP team.
• Promote a culture of learning, reflection and professional development.
• Develop and deliver educational programmes internally and externally.
• Act as a mentor and coach for advanced practitioners and the wider CHAS nursing team

Evidence, Research and Development

• Lead quality improvement, service evaluation and innovation projects.
• Promote the use of evidence-based practice across clinical services.
• Support research activity and the translation of evidence into practice.
• Monitor outcomes and demonstrate the impact of advanced practice on children, families and services.
• Contribute to national developments in children's palliative care and advanced practice.
