Coherent Corp. in Kaiserslautern invites a Laser Development Engineer to help create the next generation of ultrafast DPSS lasers for industrial micromachining.

You will join the Advanced R&D Group to develop concepts and transform them into high‑performance, reliable products with an international, collaborative team. You will design sources and optics for ultrafast pulses, plan and manage projects, build prototypes, document tests, and work closely with customers and suppliers worldwide.

Qualifications

• A Diploma or Master’s degree in Physics; a PhD is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of laser technology and hands‑on laboratory experience with complex, high‑power picosecond or femtosecond laser systems.
• Engineering experience with diode‑pumped solid‑state lasers.
• Excellent English and strong communication skills; teamwork in an international environment.

Laser Development Engineer – Ultrafast DPSS Lasers

Help shape the next generation of ultrafast lasers for industrial micromachining. As part of Coherent’s Advanced R&D Group, you’ll develop laser concepts and turn them into high-performance, reliable products. You’ll work with an international team in a supportive environment that values collaboration, professional development and a good sense of humour.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Developing new lasers and improving existing products, modules, components and related products for industrial applications.
• Designing high-end laser sources and optics for ultrafast pulses, including nonlinear optics for frequency conversion from the mid-infrared to ultraviolet.
• Planning and managing development projects, including contributing to requirements specifications and preparing progress, interim and final reports.
• Designing, building and testing development prototypes.
• Defining specifications for laser characterisation equipment and documenting measurement protocols.
• Designing and verifying optical and electronic test fixtures.
• Conducting and documenting short- and long-term tests, and preparing and presenting development results.
• Working with international colleagues and partners in the US and Asia.
• Supporting international customers and suppliers with technical problem-solving.

What You’ll Bring

• A Diploma or Master’s degree in Physics; a PhD is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of laser technology and hands‑on laboratory experience with complex, high‑power picosecond or femtosecond laser systems, amplifiers, and infrared, visible or ultraviolet lasers.
• Engineering experience with diode‑pumped solid‑state lasers.
• A strong understanding of laser measurement and characterisation techniques.
• Excellent English and strong communication skills.
• Experience in an industrial environment or education in electronics would be an advantage.
• Familiarity with simulation tools and mathematical software would also be an advantage.
