TOPTICA Photonics SE in Germany seeks an Engineer or Physicist for control engineering and signal processing to advance stabilization and metrology in laser systems. You will work at the interface of physics and engineering, tackling design challenges and modelling tasks with Python or MATLAB/Simulink.

The role requires a physics or engineering degree with 5+ years in relevant control and signal processing, plus strong German and English skills and a collaborative mindset.

Qualifikationen

• A completed degree in physics, electrical engineering, control engineering, or a comparable field.
• More than 5 years of relevant professional experience in control engineering and signal processing in optoelectronic systems, preferably also gained as part of a PhD.
• Sound experience in classical control engineering or digital signal processing or optical signal processing.
• Experience in laser technology, particularly in frequency/phase stabilization, interferometry, and metrology.
• Proficient modelling and simulation with Python or MATLAB/Simulink; strong teamwork and self-motivation; German and English skills.

What can you expect in the role ?

The core competencies of our group are control engineering, digital and optical signal processing, as well as modelling and simulation. This results in a diverse field of activity in the areas of model-based design, laser metrology, and product architecture. As an interface between different disciplines, we work closely with adjacent specialist groups such as electronics, software, and laser technology.

• Design and development of innovative stabilization, optimization, and measurement methods for complex laser systems for the scientific and industrial markets
• Solving challenging technological problems in a creative environment, for example regarding high measurement accuracy, large control bandwidths, or specialized filter algorithms
• Accompanying product development throughout the entire development process, from the initial idea through the design and evaluation of concepts to the transfer of suitable methods into series products
• Demonstration of new technologies in functional prototypes
• Use of advanced design, simulation, and measurement tools, as well as measurement equipment such as Bode analyzers, phase noise measurement systems, and spectrum analyzers
• Collaboration with multidisciplinary development teams from laser technology, electronics, software, and mechanical engineering, as well as coordination of interdisciplinary tasks
• Cooperation with national and international teams, scientific partners, and research institutions
• Supporting and maintaining existing products regarding control engineering issues

Must-haves: What you’ll need for this role?

• A completed degree in physics, electrical engineering, control engineering, or a comparable field
• More than 5 years of relevant professional experience in control engineering and signal processing in optoelectronic systems, preferably also gained as part of a PhD
• Sound experience in at least one of the following areas, as well as basic knowledge of the others:Classical control engineering,Digital signal processing
  Optical signal processing
• Experience in laser technology, particularly in at least one of the following areas: frequency and phase stabilization, interferometry, and metrology
• Practical experience with modelling and simulation tools such as Python or MATLAB/Simulink
• A strong interest in understanding, modelling, and making use of physical relationships in complex laser systems
• Enjoyment of bridging the gap between system modelling, simulation, and practical implementation in the laboratory
• A strong team player mentality combined with a high level of self-motivation
• Enthusiasm, curiosity, and a willingness to familiarize yourself with new subject areas
• Good German and English language skills

What would be a plus in this role?

• Knowledge of software development for embedded systems (microcontrollers, FPGAs, DSPs)
• Basic knowledge of RF technology
• Experience with AI assisted development workflows
