The position involves working under the general supervision of the Chief Buildings and Grounds, O&M Division, Directorate of Public Works, U.S. Army Garrison Kaiserslautern. The incumbent will serve as Landscape Architect with oversight of Roads, Railroads, Force Protection / Anti Terrorist, Land Management, Pest Management, and tree safety. Responsibilities include establishing and managing the GIS database, planning, coordinating, and executing work for USAG-K installations across a wide geographic area, including military kasernes, troop housing, heliports, and support facilities.
The role requires coordinating with US agencies and Host Nation officials, ensuring compliance with standards, developing maintenance and improvement programs, and evaluating work performance. The incumbent will perform inspections, analyze and recommend improvements for roads, railroads, sewer systems, and security features, and provide technical guidance for design and construction projects. They will also serve as a technical liaison for inspections and compliance visits by European and Host Nation regulatory organizations.
Additional duties include conducting annual engineering inspections, developing technical documentation, monitoring trends, and advising on future installation requirements. The engineering scope varies from sophisticated analysis to modern methodologies, utilizing knowledge of local and Host Nation codes, standards, materials, and equipment.
Applicants must meet Education & Training levels, with Level V requiring graduation from a recognized German engineering institution and certification to practice engineering in Germany. A valid German driver’s license (Class B) is required. Proficiency in English and German at level C1 is mandatory.
This is a permanent full-time position (38.5 hrs/week).
