Jobbeschreibung

As part of its strategic planning, the University Medical Center Göttingen (UMG) in the heart of Germany is pursuing the consistent further development of its profile-forming priority research areas: Molecular Cell Biology, Neurosciences, Cardiovascular Medicine, and Oncology. With its German Centers for Health Research partner (DZHK, DZNE, and DZKJ), the excellence cluster “Multiscale Bioimaging,” collaborative research centers, and other grants, UMG offers a dynamic research environment. As a partner at the Göttingen Campus, we foster close ties with the university's natural and life sciences institutions, as well as non-university research institutions, to advance groundbreaking research and discoveries.

The decision has been made on the largest funding initiative in Lower Saxony's history: 'Potenziale strategisch entfalten,' a joint funding program of the Lower Saxony Ministry of Science and Culture and the Volkswagen Foundation, will support universities in Lower Saxony with a total of 265 million euros. UMG will receive 18.5 million euros. This funding allows us to pursue the goals outlined in our proposal 'UMG 2032 - Excellence through Focus' over the next five years.

During this project, we will focus on integrating our four established priority research areas under the cross-organ and cross-disease concept of Metabolic Plasticity. We aim to strengthen collaborative research activities, promote outstanding scientists at all career levels, deepen technology transfer, and ensure rapid societal application of scientific knowledge. These efforts reflect our commitment to progress and excellence in science.

We are seeking established scientists in the early career phase (up to 6 years post-PhD) who are passionate about advancing the field of Metabolic Plasticity. As an Early Career Researcher leading a Junior Research Group at UMG, you will have the opportunity to establish a cutting-edge research program with significant impacts. We are particularly interested in candidates who can develop innovative research in areas such as:

  1. Mitochondrial Homeostasis (ECR 1)
  2. Inter-Organ Communication (ECR 2)
  3. Metabolic Neuroimmune Adaptations (ECR 3)
  4. Transcription and Metabolic Plasticity (ECR 4)
  5. Metabolomics Mass Spectrometry Platform and Advancing Techniques for Studying Metabolic Plasticity (ECR 5)
