Job Introduction

Serco has made significant contributions at their COP2 Service Facility next to EUMETSAT in Darmstadt, supporting satellite operations and projects. As the owner and operator, Serco provides engineering, technical, and management services, ensuring reliable satellite mission support. Their expertise has earned recognition, including 'Best in Service' awards, reflecting their commitment to excellence and innovation in satellite operations.

On behalf of our client, ESOC, we seek a Junior Application Support Engineer for the FOS Virtualisation service at the Serco Spacecraft Operations Centre in Darmstadt, Germany.

Main Responsibilities

1. Set up, configure, and maintain PostgreSQL clusters for performance and reliability.
2. Deploy, manage, and troubleshoot containerized applications in Kubernetes.
3. Monitor system performance and produce operational reports.
4. Collaborate with cross-functional teams on technical operations.
5. Support database infrastructure to ensure data accessibility and integrity (optional).
6. Contribute to software development, especially in Java and scripting.
7. Maintain Linux-based systems, including troubleshooting.

Candidate Requirements

Do you meet the following experience and knowledge criteria?

1. At least 2 years of experience with PostgreSQL and Kubernetes in operational settings.
2. Background in infrastructure or platform engineering focusing on system reliability.
3. Basic knowledge of cloud infrastructure, security, and networking.
4. Familiarity with cloud storage solutions (vBlock, S3, Object Storage).
5. Experience with Linux system administration and troubleshooting.
6. Monitoring and performance tuning of distributed systems.
7. Scripting or development skills in Java, Python, or similar.
8. Knowledge of Ansible and Terraform.
9. Optional: supporting database environments and data consistency.
10. Qualifications in Computer Science, Engineering, or related fields are advantageous but not mandatory.
11. Strong problem-solving skills and troubleshooting willingness.
12. Team-oriented approach and procedure-driven mindset.
13. Ability to work autonomously and handle stress.
14. Fluent in English (written and spoken).
